I came across a unusual $1 Wilson the one on right of scan, but scan does not show color well, I believe it is a Bright magenta, does any one have an idea as to the value of a used specimen?

Hi Macbearin, if you go to the search function and type in your Scott number you will get some posts about this, with pictures. The search function is on top of this page, just under "Like us on Facebook". And I believe you are correct about the color!

Peter

with the the scotts 382, always check for the watermark,USIR for both used and unused stamps (382b)...in a current auction book, never hinged with margin cv 200.00 for purple black with watermark.. for single stamp with watermark, range 30-40, depending condition and market demand. With the vertical pair imperf.horizontal, or vertical pairs with imperf between, block of 4 in unused condition are valuable. This stamp known for First day cover, Washington DC in used condition can be over 40 dollars.. please dont remove stamp.

blazenstar.....you always come off the deep end with your posts!
There is no mention about the stamp in question being a 832b.....
You do not need to quote everything from the catalog.

Kevin.I have always appreciated when others told me what to look for in my past. too bad if you don't like what I choose to write with true information pertaining to this stamp.lol.. Some people only think for their own best interest, some may know this information when others may not.He asked about values. The ones with watermarks have value. He did not mention if checked watermarks,so told what good idea to look for with this stamp.

832b does not come in bright magenta. Or red violet. Only purple.

for a used stamp without watermark, not worth that much at all..it can be to add to collection to complete series, but some may want value of stamp worth more for that position in their stamp books. Being sold for a used stamp for 30-40 dollars range on certain stamp sites, you hope seller is informing has USIR watermark.

It would be interesting if the pre cancel may have any value. There are specific books to determine if the pre cancel common or not on certain stamps. They are catalogued a special way: bureau, locals, types ect. There is a specific site called the precancel society that has the information. There is another part of forum that have specialists that know about precancels too.

The West Sayville, NY cancel is a "box cancel" typically used on parcel post. It is not a precancel.
