Check the paper for hardness. Hard paper is #159, soft is #188. This I suspect you know. Are you asking how to check?

1. Use a UV light; shine on from above. Soft paper appears dull in comparison with hard.

2. Hold the stamp up so that normal light (sunlight or from a bulb) shines through. Look for an open weave with an apparent "waffling" of the paper fibers.
