I'd like some other opinions besides mine...but it looks like they are charging for the cancel and not the stamp. I see many sellers of fancy cancels do this. That's what I think is going on.
The scan looks to be a clumsy way of getting a black background. It looks to me like it's in a clear hinge, pressed against something black and then scanned. What the "something black" is I don't know, and I don't mean to imply that the hinge is attached to it.
Richard, the seller, deals almost exclusively in cancels. He is a strong proponent of the thinking that to a cancel collector the condition of the stamp is secondary to the condition of the cancel. He says that for obvious reasons, and prices his material accordingly. He is an honest dealer, but in the larger auction market that idea is not well supported. It is not entirely false either.
