It looks fine. And the best thing to do with a PF certificate is to check it against the pfsearch.org online database; it's there. The cover has known provenance and includes annotations from Dr. Chase....no problems there.

I have a Scott #1 (good colors w/ pf cert) and I was offered $400 once for it... I thought the envelope would triple the value. Couple that with a PF certificate, my guess was it should have been in 1000+.
Surprised to see one for $700 and hence asked. |

I think think that if the price was "good", someone would have purchased it by now. ebay is full of pickers and bargains are not left for long. |

To expand on the back side notes, having the catalog handy: Daniel F. Kelleher, Sale 590, October 22-23, 1991. Lot 478 appears as follows: I do not know the hammer price. |

It isn't a #1, it's a 1d, which is more valuable and scarcer than a #1. That's why the price is $700, at least as I can see. So if anyone compares this with other auctions, be sure to compare apples with apples....
Hope this helps, Ray |

It's a premium color, certified by the PF for authenticity. Scare yourselves with worry and doubt if you think that's wise, but if I were persuing the 1847s and had found this it would be gone already.
It's safe from me since I don't have the money or the need for that, but it is a nice piece. |

First, be sure you are searching in the Category "United States" subcategory "19th Century Used" then create a search string that gets what you want and removes what you don't want, for example:
"5c (1, #1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1847, Franklin) -Jefferson -Washington -Grant -Garfield -Taylor -Due"
Here "5c" is required, everything in the parentheses represents a disjunction of terms (OR), and the minus sign "-" immediately followed by a term (no space after minus) eliminates a term from search.
The string above does a pretty good job of returning stuff, but there may be irrelevant terms in the disjunction set. Certainly there is probably a better search string. |

Jim, try adding 1847 to your search. But on the down side, that might eliminate some. |

When I first read this thread, I was happy to see the # 1 on a cover. It did sell for the $700 earlier mentioned. I also enjoyed the info on ebay search techniques. They do say that you learn something new every day! |
