Hi Everyone - I recently bought this mint US 506 (online and not in person) and noticed what looks like a guide line marks on the tips of some perfs on the right side. I think this flat plate issue was from 400 subject plate cut into 4 - 100 subject panes along the guide lines. I assume this means it was reperfed on that side. But why go to the effort for such a low priced stamp? Kind of scary to think one should have to look so close at all flat plate stamps that one buys - even the cheap ones.

In the past, straight edges were reperforated by some, regardless of the stamp's value, in order to make it look more desirable to them.

The perforations are definitely bad. This is yet another example of someone with too much time on their hands. A sheet of 100 would have had 19 straight edges, definitely giving someone a financial incentive to "fix" straight edges. Richard Kiusalas supplied HE Harris with relatively low value stamps in quantities of 100. If only 95 stamps were available, the last five needed would have been reperforated from available straight edges. Somewhere I have a reperforaed used 2 cent Columbian.

Nice example cfrphoto. If 2c used Columbians are targets for reperfing, I'm afraid to go back and look at all my flat plate stamp closely!
