I just bought some glassine envelopes to help sort and store stamps. I was wondering if it is okay to use a sharpie to mark the outsides of the envelopes. Don't want to have ink leaching through.
Thinking I might start to stock up on North Korean stamps. Thinking it may not be around much longer! LOL this is getting scarey. Reminds me of the cold war days, but with someone who wants to actually use his missiles.
(Just my opinion, I could be wrong)

Thanks for answering this post!
Jay

What's a sharpie ??

And yes, it is scary, but North Korea is merely a distraction.
The takeover started long ago, and only George Bush Jnr helped in that regard. Since his departure things have speeded up again....just look at a certain election taking place about now.

Yes, it is very scary.

Londonbus1.....Packing already.

Sharpie is a fine point permanent marker, very wet initial application.

I would not recommend using a Sharpie to write on the glassines. I would recommend white stickers from a office supply store.

I also would suggest applying a label. I write on the label with pencil so that when I reuse the glassine, I can rewrite the contents. I never have enough glassines and am always reusing what I have or get in trades.

I've written on glassines with Sharpies without problems -- although I prefer the small ones that are the size of a regular felt-tip pen. I've also written on them with a pencil -- it's sort of faint and will smudge if rubbed. But you can erase it when the contents change.

Others here will know more than I, but it seems there is a bit of debate about whether glassines are appropriate for long-term storage of your stamps...

I also advocate the use of small labels and pencil but also have had no problem with the use of 'sharpies".

Whatever you use, just make sure it dries well. I personally like the label idea. They make some 1/2 x 1 inch ones that have something like 100 on a sheet.

I use labels and pencil also.

I only store stamps in glassines long enough to have them sorted and ready to hing in albums. Then I reuse them for another country (or for sending stamps off to freinds). I am also very cheap I cut the labels into small squares just big enough to wright what I need to.
