I have finally sorted (somewhat, lol) most of my big lots from ebay. My question is, how do you guys keep an inventory of what you have? For one my "one from each country" I have a list of what countries I have. But as far as keeping up with individual numbers, I don't have most cataloged yet. I want to start buying smaller lots of the stamps I need, and I've already bought one with stamps I already had! My US collection had grown nicely, but I am ready to steer away from the most common ones,I probably have 5-10 of each now. I am going to start buying just the ones I need. But I need a good way to keep up with what I have. What do you guys do?

I keep my want lists, by Scott number, for the countries I am interested in. I print the lists out with and keep them in a three-ringed binder that goes with me to stamp club meetings, shows, etc. When I get a stamp I need I cross it off the list. then I remove it from the soft copy on my computer.
When the list starts to look a little ratty, I re-print it.

I've made photocopies of Scott pages and then mark each Scott number of the stamps I have with a red pen. It is easier for me to make a quick reference of what I have or don't have when I have a visual aid to help me.

Inventory I just guess and sometimes I'm wrong . Stephanie I'll go through my US spares when I get a chance. Maybee you'll find some you need, you can always use the rest for collage projects. Oh and about that inventory thing. That's definately something I should be thinking about for the fall. Dianne |

There are a few computer programs for stamp inventory with built in images and catagories ie. EZ Stamp Database. Also, an excell spreadsheet is fairly easy to put together with a tab for each country and then rows by Scott #. You could make a column for used, mint, multiples available for trade, have, want, and need. |

Thanks, everyone for all the ideas. I downloaded a free program for cataloging collections, but it was awful. I couldn't use it at all. I deleted it and don't remember the name, but its the first thing that comes up when you google free collecting inventory programs.
I think I will do an Excel spreadsheet. |
