Hi All,

I have a 1c blue Franklin Bureau issue which is mint & NH. It is the Scott A87 and most definitely blue. I checked with watermark fluid and there is no sign of any watermark. Can I safely assume it is a 247? Is it possible a 264 can show up without a watermark for some reason?

Thanks,
Lou

A good reliable expert in the stamp community would be JLLebbert.

Other than that you must consult with The Philatelic Foundation in NY City..

So I guess you are saying that it is possible that it may not be a 247 and need expert advice. I will look into it. Thanks a lot.

Lou, please be a little patient. We have quite a lot of experts on this panel - most of them are probably still at work. One thing would probably help tremendously - if you could put up a good scan of the stamp.

Double-line watermarks are fairly large. Some portion of the watermark on a #264 should show. If you're sure you do not see any evidence of watermark, its pretty safe to say the stamp is not watermarked. If you wish a definitive answer and want to get it expertized, then the APS (if you're a member) is probably a good service to use on that stamp.

Thanks Peter. Will do.

Thanks Gator, definitely did not see anything that could be a watermark. I have other stamps where the watermark show up and it's pretty clearly visible I was not sure since I never used watermark solution before. I did join APS last month, so I do plan on using their services. Now that I am retired, I am in the process of reviewing my stamp collection that I had packed away for the past 30 years. Now I have plenty of time to start collecting again.
