I think I may have identified this correctly. Did I do it right?

Can we see a better scan or picture?

Type I (images below) - "No heavy hair lines at top center of head.
Outline of left acanthus scroll generally faint at top and toward base at left side."

Type II (images below) - "Three heavy hair lines at top center of head; two being outstanding in the white area. Outline of left acanthus scroll very strong and clearly defined at top (under left edge of lettered panel) and at lower curve (above and to left of numeral oval)."

I see what I did. I was looking for a match with unperf top and bottom and didn't read that note about the hair. Thanks and yes you are correct, it doesn't have the hair lines. I will slow down and read more carefully.

One of the most mis read two centw Washington's out there. Trust me when you do find one, those three hair lines will jump off of the stamp at you.
I'm sure someone here could post a side by side/overlap pic of yours and a type2...coffee time good luck

Scrappy, there is a great post by mavericx on this forum. If you search for "Scott 599 type II" you will find this post, complete with explanations and scans.

Thank you, Peter. I found the "I Love Stamps" great comments and explanations and especially this copy downloaded by him:

yep same pic I was going to scan-see those HUGE hair lines? You can't miss them and don't have to 'zoom' in to see them--I still check stamps all the time hoping to run across one of them my self, heck its been 20+ years and all I find are type 1's--good luck
