It helps me to understand the world better then perhapes, not being a collector would have. You become exposed to different cultures, ways of thinking unlike your own.
Geopolitical landscape is clearer giving you greater insight into way things happen the way they do in other countries around the world.

I've always loved Geography and History. Stamp collectiong has helped me learn about both of these. It is also a very relaxing hobby if you're in it for pure pleasure and not always thinking of the dollar value of each stamp.
