Wow, took me less than 24hrs to the realize how overwhelming comparing stamps can be to the untrained eye. I've been looking at franklins ranging from at least the year 1900 to the 1930's and it was too much to take in, everything got really confusing lol so I seperated the pre 1910 Franklins from the others.

The colors and perforation areas vary greatly.

Is there an area here at the community that explains what in particular I should be perceptive to on maybe 1890-1910 Franklins or what I should look for? If anything.

The stamps are on postcards with postmarks, some of the postmarks are shaped like footballs, bulls eyes, US flag with 13 stars, some I can't tell what the mark is and some appear to have no mark on the stamp.

You might want to check out Stamp Smarter website at http://www.stampsmarter.com/1847_landing.html for info on those franklin stamps.

The stamps are complicated... but the cancellations are an order of magnitude more complicated...
I collect the 13 star flag cancellations - there are 7,395 US flags listed in the latest reference.

TimeWarp,

You should know that (in the StampSmarter 1847 site) the Washington Franklin stamps cover the period 1908-1922. For Franklin stamps after 1922, you have to look at the menu where it says 1922.

As far as the cancellations, saw a 1955 that I haven't seen online yet but probably just missed it im the search. It has "Fight infantile paralysis Join the March Of Dimes"

Hi Time Warp, and welcome. Your cancel is probably a common one - almost every large post office was using that at one point. If you can, post a scan. Some of us are really good with these cancels.\

Hi Peter, I'll open a thread devoted to cancellations for the pre and or post 1940's and get a picture of that one and any others anyone may want to see.

Is photobucket okay to upload pics? I have a celestron microscope but my mac is down so I'm using a Dell and can't find the software for it. So just needing to know the a way folks are uploading pics here that should be easy.

The stamps are on postcards with postmarks

Most of the 1 cent Franklins of this era are common, but some of the postmarks are scarce. The difficult stamps of that era are the 1894 First Bureaus. Small triangles in the upper corners.
Google any town name you don't recognize, and look for DPOs, or Dead Post Offices. Cards with real photos of those DPOs are quite valuable.

littleriverphil, I do have a green ONE CENT Franklin (facing left, his right) with triangles in the top right and left corners. Unsure what you consider small.

Lol, in the group of stamps I mentioned there is only one size triangle, the 2 cent has different triangles, but Ben doesn't. So it's mostly the 1902 series and 1908 Washington-Franklins. The W-F's continue to 1922, and get really complicated.
Also look for coil stamps (straight edges at opposite ends or sides), again, see the Stamp Smarter site.
