Items like these are exactly why I believe
ebay should return to charging a listing fee based on starting price. Before sellers go all ballistic,
ebay at the same time would reduce the final value fees, to equal net no change.
Free listings only encourage overpriced items and totally fill up searches with the same stamps over and over again, wasting everybody's time. If they still feel the need to offer free listings, put conditions on them. Like the start price plus shipping must total $1 or less.
Of course I realize
ebay is about much more than stamps and what may make sense for one group of items may totally not for others.
That's why I posted on another thread that I believe it's time for the APS to enter the online stamp auction arena. They could create a true auction site for stamps.
A stamp site that actually had oversight. A site where listings could be vetted by APS members. A site where anyone could buy but only APS members could sell. Using their APS # as their seller ID, not hiding behind secret IDs. A True auction site without Buy It Nows and overpriced reserves. They have the stamp store and APS stamp circuits for that.
Of course they would get a lot of backlash from their stamp dealer and stamp auction house advertisers. But if they truly want to save the hobby it's time to make some changes.
As these ideas go through my mind, I can't help but draw comparisons with what's going on today with government. Certain factions are doing pretty good, just the way things are, why change?
