You are correct that this is a later version of the ABNCo essay for the contract of 1861, which was derived from an earlier essay by Bald, Cousland and Co. (see #11-E12), one of the predecessor companies to the American Bank Note. Some time later in the 60s American again modified the design by the addition of the company name and company initials in the corners to print special die prints as salesman's samples. These prints are seen as full die prints and cut down to stamp size. They are not catalog listed, but you can see the connections to the other listed essays.
