I have just started selling online thru StampWants. After two weeks I am not satisfied with the results and I think I have made the wrong choice of vendor site. I am amazed that on this forum site I didn't see any thoughts about Zillions of Stamps, which I now think is my best option. My choices are Zillions of Stamps, APS Stampstore, StampWants or ebay. I would be interested in your thoughts about any of these and which you would choose if you were selling online. Thanks.

I believe I would start with APS Stamp Store but, that would be based on the fact that that site is my my "go-to" when I want to purchase. I find it user friendly and reasonable with pricing backed by good service. It's also nice because its "1-stop" shopping.

Hi Mikesober......

As a buyer I like the way ebay is set up.......as a seller the fees add up way too quickly but they still have more traffic than all the others.

Mikesober,

I'm not a seller at this time, but I buy from StampWants and they just changed their format which may make it easier, APS store & E-bay, otherwise at store specific web sites.

ebay is where you would get the attention..but I notice that once sellers develop a following on Stampoffers or Stampwants...they do ok...people want to get more than one item for their postage and shipping money..so they tend to stick with a favorite buyer on the second two I mentioned...

I have been purchasing on Delcampe and find prices are similar with ebay. There is way overpriced items to fantastic deals with everything in between. The US Delcampe site tends to have high prices but most of the other country delcampe sites are, in general, more reasonably priced. As a buyer, I like the feature that permits you to offer a lower price than minimum, or starting, bid.
It is helpful, indeed necessary, to understand French, German, Spanish or Italian to bid on many items outside of the US delcampe sales. But if you do not, I have found that many Europeans speak at least 2 languages with English often being the second language. Every item indicates if the seller speaks English when the flag of England is displayed.

Seller fees are similar to those of stampoffers and Delcampe now allows PayPal as a payment option.

I've had successful listings on E-bay, Epier, Stampwants and Stampoffers. I've also listed, without success on Bidville, Stamphead, Webidz, Stamps2go and Ioffer.

If you have high value items or items of high interest you will see the most traffic on E-bay, but the fees are high. Buyers on most of the other site seem to be looking for bargains.

I agree with nr-notrare. I like buying on ebay...I have real success with quite a few sellers there. Selling has been good but with too many fees.

Quigngt,

You are right, we work in a really international context. Note also that we provide a basic translator directly on the site, look the "fish" icon in the top right corner of the site.

You will find the same icon beside the titles and descriptions of items

'My choices are Zillions of Stamps, APS Stampstore, StampWants or ebay.'

I've never heard of the first three of these but will definitely give them a go in future.

So far, I've just been buying on ebay, Stamps2Go and Delcampe.

But having had two items not arrive recently - one an item that I won on ebay, the other that I won on Delcampe - I'm feeling rather burned and won't be doing much buying for a while.

In terms of selling, ebay seems the only place to be. I have sold a few things on Delcampe for satisfactory prices but it took ages for them to go.

By contrast, you can get a lot of attention on ebay very quickly. No matter what you're selling there seems to be someone out there who'll be interested in it, even if they don't always end up bidding in the end.

For example, I sold a North Korean stamp recently on ebay - getting the bid the very first day it was listed - while two sellers have the same stamp sitting unsold on Delcampe for (I think) rather less than I was able to get for mine on ebay. The fellow obviously wanted the stamp a lot to bid for it immediately, but must not have been aware of Delcampe.

Overall, I think ebay is the best place to sell stamps; the problem I have is rather with Paypal and its pernicious policy of punishing the seller if an item fails to reach the buyer (or the buyer says that it hasn't reached him/her).

Unfortunately, ebay obliges seller to accept Paypal.

On all sites patience pays well. Buyers tend to stick to sellers they had good experience with before and sales pick up slowly after the first few sales. Fresh material is also essential and emailed updates to the client base does wonders.

In general the difference between ebay and other sites is the traffic source. When not selling on ebay one has to assume(from my own experience that is) that the responsibility for the traffic is the seller's.

I just tried list an item on Wensy.com and failed.

After I clicked on 'Confirm' to post my listing, I just got an error message.

So I wasted ten minutes for nothing.

I have better things to do than waste my time on websites like this. I won't be going back.

I will applaud Wensy for providing a fee-free auction service, but their interface could be better.
