Hello,

I have gone through a lot of bank notes and found the following nice two stamps, they are shown in the middle of the 2 rows and below as single. First: Did I do it right to identify them as 178 and 209?

My thoughts about the 178 in the middle:
This stamp really pops out very much from all the other 178s I have. The color is extremly shiny. The photo is not exaggerating here, even the color is even more a red than a vermillion in reality. The printing quality is tactile as you see what I don't see on other bank notes. So does all this really fit into a 178 vermillion? Or is there a red or any other version?

Now about the 209 in the middle:
Here I think that the brown is just different, too, from all other 209s I have. So in my opinion this would be a 209b black brown?

Looking forward for your comments!

Identifying shades via scans is difficult, but this is a Scott 209b

thank you for the comparison. If I look on my monitor and at your scan and then in my album, then my stamp in the album is closer to your scan than to my photos here :). So I will really have to make scans from now on. I don't have a very good scanner, but photos don't seem to be good for colors.

Color shades also differ on every monitor and computer system. You also might want to use the search button and search on 209,178.

Stamperix, I'm not at home and can't scan my certed 209b, but I think I posted it a while back. Your copy isn't dark enough, and really the only way you'll know is to have your stamp certed.

thank you all. well, I will have to make a real scan.
concerning my monitor, it's calibrated with an external hardware, so I have a good color profile here. But my scanner is not the most expensive. I will give it a try, compare on my monitor with the real stamp and come back here.

about the 178: so it's just nothing special that you can "feel the color" with your hands? Probably I just have seen old bad bank notes so far except of this one.

Irrespective of color, the paper on the vermilion stamp in the center certainly looks like hard paper. There is really no question that this stamp is #178 as you have said.

As for the #209, there are several shades of this stamp, not all listed, some of which are very dark (e.g. dark purple brown) and one of which is black brown. On the screen of my laptop the background color on your scans looks greenish in comparison to the white of the rest of this page. I have zero confidence that I could judge the colors of your stamps.

Hi essayk,

ok so I know this for the 178. Anyway it's great to have such a nice printing quality in my hands. Sadly the other aspects of the stamp are not perfect :).

about the 209 I now made a scan to see if it's better to show the color. I attach the image here. If you say that there are other shades it's like always that you loose "clear view" as a beginner...but for sure my stamp is at least not purple brown or greenish, it's just very clear brown a bit "pale", so no other color shades except of a "gray brown".

well, I just show you the image as my first try of a scan :). In comparison another stamp in the same scan. At least it's another color?
