Dianne thank you so much. Anything is welcome and appreciated. BTW since you are in Canada, do you have the Roadside Attraction stamps available. |

Good luck! Our club is doing a one-day stamp camp next month, and I'd be interested in hearing what worked, and what didn't seem to work.

As a former Scout, Scouter, Scoutmaster, Asst. Dist. Commisioner, National Staffer (you get the point). Remember, Merit Badges are intended to give the Scouts a basic foundation and introduction. |

Collin, try doing a search on our site for previous topics relating to attracting youth, scouts, and presentations. I know there is some good advice in the topic threads. I'm looking forward to speaking with interested the youth. |

Dude:
Will send out a packet for the lads on Monday.
I shall include a Canadian Wartime "Blackout" cancel, and you can direct the lads to this site to learn about them.

I'll have to come back too to learn more about the cancel. I assume it is an obliterating cancel. |

I met with the scouts again this past Monday. I was happy to see a turn out of 5 boys. Plus some of them brought in the requirements they had completed and were in the process of completing. It was a good meeting. I am hoping to meet with them again next week and maybe even the week after that to sign off on some more requirements. Now all I need to do is get them to attend a stamp club meeting, stamp show, or get a tour of a post office- those are some of the toughest. |

Good luck with your task. A Stamp show would be quite interesting I would have thought. Do you ever have a Scout Stamp show in your area....this would be something they could relate to.
There is a big Scout show in my home town in England and it starts the day I leave for Israel....I will miss it. It is Euro-Scout Stamp Exhibition 2010 and follows on from the 2008 World Scout Jamboree which lit up the town when I was visiting two years ago.

I've never heard of a Scout Stamp Show, unless you mean a stamp collecting merit badge seminar/table/orientation at a stamp show to assist scouts with completing their requirements. I am working on getting my stamp club to sponsor such an event during our annual Fall Bourse.
There are not any National Jamboree's in our area, maybe a Sectional Conclave for Order of the Arrow or a regional weeklong camping event. There is the annual Abraham Lincoln Pilgramage to AL's Tomb in Springfield IL that is attending by hundred's of scouts. Also, there is an annual Klondike Derby held in February in our area.
Since I am not an active troop member I really do not know of all the events, only what I remember from when I was a Boy Scout. |

They had a special for boy scouts at WESTPEX last weekend, where they got free admission and some kind of help with satisfying their requirements for the merit badge from the dealers and show organizers... My son's scoutmaster took several boy scouts over there and spent the afternoon with them working on that.

Our local club looked at putting on a presentation for the local scouts. After being advised that we'd all need background checks if we were going to spend any one-on-one time with them, we gave up.
Times are really, truly, very sad. |

I had to take an online test and submit information for a background check to become a Merit Badge Counselor. Everything was done and completed in a couple of weeks and didn't cost me anything. I have our meetings in group settings just before the regular troop meeting. It is not that difficult to meet scouting protocol & standards in my opinion. You may want to look back into it and read a copy of what needs to be done.
Also, for a presentation at a stamp club or show I would assume that troop leaders, approved merit badge counselors, and parents would be present. |

We know it's no really big deal, but for a new club, just starting, with few members, we can't really be bothered in truth! I've organised some goody bags for them though. |

Sad indeed Jubilee, but necessary. When I applied for my "working with children" certificate, it was a simple form from the post office and Passport photo. I guess that could be a hassle for just 1 evening showing some stamps though.
