gussyboy, your dups are definetely welcome. Your packet arrived today. Thanks! I love the Australian "heavy haulers" stamps. If you son sees them he'll want the trains, boats, and trucks from himself. LOL!

Jubilee, Yes it did (I think). I know I received something from down under this past few weeks. It's been busy and I set it aside. Thanks! |

Stamperdude, those heavy haulers were extras I had from triggersmob a while back. I plastered the front with extra stamps and , I believe that was a 1970's or 80's something envelope. Glad to help out. Gussyboy1 |

If anyone has a Boy Scout stamp collecting merit badge presentation? I'm hosting two merit badge workshops at stamp shows in the greater San Jose/Silicon Valley area in the next couple of months. I'd like to enhance the presentation I have to teach the badge requirements. If anybody has one, please email it me at: bfj39@yahoo.com

StamperDude - I've got a pretty good batch of material ready to send to you. Do you still need it for the Scouts? |

bfj, I am following up with a few scouts on the 24th and signing off on their completed requirements at a stamp bourse near Springfield IL.
Laswabbie, Yep, I can use some more material for the scouts to sift through to help complete their merit badges. I will also have available free stamps & stamp related activities to any kids that come to the upcoming stamp show. Thank you! |

This is a cool idea a stamp club is doing to promote stamp collecting that I found on the stamp collecting roundup website:
Tuesday, November 23, 2010 Club Putting Together a Stamp Collecting "Country Fair" In the United States Army there is such a thing known as a "Country Fair."
These are training exercises that consist of several stations where soldiers learn first aid, map reading, weapons assembly/disassembly as well as other topics.
Individual or small groups go through the various stations and are receive instruction. When finished they move on the next station.
The Glendale/La Crescenta, CA stamp club is putting together something similar for local Boy Scouts to earn their stamp collecting merit badge and as a way for others in the community to learn about the hobby.
The club has come up with four stations, that after completing, individuals will know a great deal about the hobby and fulfill the scout merit badge requirements.
At station one, participants learn about the history of stamps and stamp collecting.
At station two, they find out about types of albums (commercial, homemade) and stock books as well as various ways of collecting stamps - i.e. geographical, topical, etc.
At station three, they are introduced various types of stamps, covers, use of catalog and the factors that affect value.
At station four, they get a demonstration on the tools of the hobby - tongs, hinges, glassine envelopes, watermark fluid, magnifying glasses, etc. They also get hands on soaking stamps.
The club plans to hold these twice a year.

I have just been asked to do a Boy Scout Merit Badge workshop presentation on Dec 22. Has someone out there already developed a presentation (Power Point...) on this that I could use as a starting piece? I could use any suggestions to enhance the presentation. I have some stamps to give out, but if anyone would like to donate some duplicates, we will put them to good use (see requirement below). Also if you have some cool decorated stamp collecting pages for kids, like for topical collections, that you could email to me I'd appreciate it. This will help them start a homemade album if they don't have an album yet. For the last requirement they need to do one of the following: A collection of 250 or more different stamps from at least 15 countries. A collection of a stamp from each of 50 different countries, mounted on maps to show the location of each. A collection of 100 or more different stamps from either one country or a group of closely related countries. A collection of 75 or more different stamps on a single topic. (Some interesting topics are Scouting, birds, insects, the Olympics, sports, flowers, animals, ships, holidays, trains, famous people, space, and medicine, etc.) Stamps may be from different countries. Send me an email & I will respond with my mailing address. Thank you so much! |

I do not know of a powerpoint. I am usually low tech for presentations and bring the essentials: catalogs, tongs, hinges, mounts, magnifyers, stamps, and other various philatelic items. |

CRG....Welcome to SCF. I hope you enjoy yourself here, it is a great place. However, you cannot use emails [to or from] or exchange buy /sell etc until you reach 50 posts. This will soon come. You seem to have more patience than bfjsjca who came and went after asking the same questions. Enjoy yourself and have fun. Go and introduce yourself here: https://goscf.com/f/11Londonbus1 |
