Still have a LOT of coins to go through, but I wanted to start looking through the stamps as well. I can take a better photo of it, but here is the first stamp I selected from 1 of 2 books. I inherited a huge collection from a friend as a Christmas present.

What would you like to know about it?
It is from the 4th Bureau issue and it's a used stamp. |

Welcome to the forum. Why don't you scan some of the oldest US stamps and let us comment on them? |

Quote: Welcome to the forum. Why don't you scan some of the oldest US stamps and let us comment on them? Thanks for the welcome It's a bit difficult to scan them, the book is almost falling apart. The book is really thick and some loose stamps are falling out. I have the urge to gently cut the pages out... Here are two photos. The second one has the stamp in question. It's looks a bit lighter than it should. I think... |

Nice job loading the images The group you show is the 4th bureau issue. They were printed 2 ways, flat plate and rotary press and the 1¢ Franklin stamps colors will be lighter (Yellow / Green) for the rotary press printing. First thing you will need is a perforation gauge, you can find them on ebay for a few $. Then I'd check my local library for some Scott catalogues, most have them. |
