I had a nice chat with a buddy from my stamp club, at the stamp shop, to-day. He was explaining to me how he is putting together his Canada city & town postmark collection. Then he suggested something that made my life a lot easier!
I have a collection (organised accumulation?) of town & city postmarks on air mail stamps and air mail covers of the Lone Star State.
Remember the old worldwide albums we had as children? As an example, the "masthead" of the page woud have the country name in the centre, with a small description below. (ie. "CANADA-Self-governing Dominion in the British Commonwealth, etc., etc. with population and capital). Then there was the flag on one side and the coat-of-arms on the other side.
My friend suggested the same format, but something like this... ADRIAN, TX. Established in 1900 as a cotton centre, populatioon 245, etc. The centre of Route 66, etc.. Then on one side, an outline of the State of Texas, with a red dot where the town is located. Then below that, a horizontal line. Then a postcard showing the post office. The next pages following, showing stamps and covers with the post marks of the town.
After years of wandering in the wilderness with this collection, a little direction from a buddy at the stamp club got me on the right path.
Keep your eyes open for Texas postmarks on air mail, and postcards of Texas post offices for me, folks!
Thanks!
David
