Hello everyone.....

For our 20th Christmas together Sara wanted to make sure I remember. She bought this at a stamp show in October and managed to keep quiet about it until Christmas. Sure surprised me !

This is the famous US Scott #1 1847 5c Franklin imperforate stamp. The 1847 5c Franklin and the 1847 10c Washington were the first postage stamps issued by the United States. These stamps are very highly prized by all US collectors. They are legendary and almost hard to believe that they are real when you see one. The 5c Franklin has come to symbolize stamp collecting in the United States, which is why this stamp is pictured on modern_who's avatar stamp. It is what stamp collectors dream of owning, since although they are expensive, they are not great rarities, and nice looking examples can be had from about $400-700.

After a lifetime of collecting, I finally got a US #1 last year. It is such a satisfying stamp.
