What Are Some Unusual Stamp Related Items In Your Collection

Everyone has run across something whether it be a stamp, cover, literature, device/tool, unique FDC, or an item of a philatelic nature. I would like to see what is out there waiting to be shown to the world. I will be digging out items & sharing once I get home.

I've had this for years and have never seen anything else like it. I have posted it before, but no one has been able to shed any light on its purpose.



Here are 2 other items that came about because of the 1893 World Columbian Exposition. I know 1 is considered a cinderella and the other is a revenue stamp for registration. Beyond that they are a mystery.

The 1 cent item from Ft. Benning is script (money) used by the Army prior to World War 2. Ft. Benning, GA is one of the largest military bases in the country. The script was used at the Post Exchange, called the PX (store) to buy whatever comfort items you might need. It could only be used as money at Ft. Benning. Other military bases produced their own script.

Thank you so much for the info. That does make more sense. Do you know if these are collectible? I guess it really isn't a philatelic item after all. I always thought that "post exchange" meant an exchange for postage, much like war ration stamps for gas & groceries.

I couldn't tell you for sure if it is collectible. I imagine to someone that collects military items it might be.

I really like this. It's a stamp from a stamp affixing machine. Which is what I hope to be this weekend with my album .

stamperdude, That 1st red Columbian Fair stamp is for this: In 1896, the Neostyle Co. marketed the Automatic Neostyle with the claim that "The machine is automatic in the full meaning of the word--the printing is automatic, the frame is opened and closed automatically, the pressure of roller is automatic, the distribution of ink is automatic, the copies are discharged as fast as printed automatically, the number of copies printed is automatically recorded, the ink is supplied automatically." These automatic presses speeded the duplicating process. Now I'm pretty sure that this was issued post-expo, like in 1896. I think they had a prototype at the fair and placed forth in judging
in what ever category it was in.

Now the registration stamp is just that. The question is registration for what? It was not postage registration.

On Tina's post those reddish stamps are Swiss meter stamps.
The large item if a French paquet these were used when transporting mail by boat around the world. It is unused, not filled out, the stamp on it may be the ship it would have been used on.
The other item is a East German something or another!

Seeing how I read Read I'll step in.

The lable reads for use on a parcel at a Postal Franchise. It is stamped With the Name " 4rth Squadron of the 1rst G. C. Meca" wich I Imagine is a Military unit.

I'm not certain if the French Military worked in the same way the ours, a squadron would suggest the Air Force.

I'll see if I can find anything more out.

That is a neat item. Much like the US "For Testing Purposes Only" Stamps which I have a few of in coil format used for testing stamp dispensing machines.

Original proof copy of our Village logo[circa 1956]. Was used as a letterhead as well as on village envelopes.

Later used by yours truly on an Israel Stamp [see my avatar] and formed part of a small display at one of our village celebrations.



A bigger, permanent display will be unveiled when we open our Clubhouse in the Autumn [I have to find time to put it together !]
