Hi All

Since I have joined this forum in less than a week ago, I was not a member at the time Londonbus showed a scan of the "London To London" Canadian flight label of 1927.

As was stated by another member, if it was original, it would be worth $12,500.00. True - but many times over. In fact, the Canadian "Unitrade Catalogue" lists this label at $50,000 just for a single label! Also, it is listed at $100,000.00 on cover.

I cannot remember when, but there was an auction not too long ago where one was offered 'on cover', proven to be genuine and the last figure I heard was $250,000.00 it sold for. (Please correct me for any updates here) Another cover, also from the same flight but w/o the label and with a slogan cancellation reading - "AIR MAIL LONDON / CANADA / LONDON / ENGLAND 1927" was also up for grabs with an estimated value of $25,000.00! All covers known to exist, were not flown but had the cancellations applied in anticipation of the flight.

I will also quote some pertinent information from the above catalogue about this issue word for word - - - "The "Sir John Carling" trans Atlantic flight ended in disaster. The stamp depicts Captain Terrace B. Tully at left and Lieutenant James Medcalf at right with their monoplane flying over a globe where the proposed flight plan is indicated. 100 copies printed, 9 unused copies and 1 on cover are known to exist."

This is considered to be Canada's most expensive Semi Official air stamp.

Cheers

Bujutsu

I have a collection both MNH and in the Album but I have never before seen them in their own glassines. A most unusual find and for just a few pennies too. Sadly, I only found three sheets, how nice it would have been to have found the full set !

If anyone else comes across these sheets in their original glassines, please let me know.
Londonbus1.....anyone collect glassines???

Londonbus1... I think I have few of these (somewhere) in my boxes. Email me if still interested and I'll try to digg them up for You.

Paul:

That Canadian cover with the attached booklet is addressed to, and was created by Dick Mallott. He is on our ORAPEX 2010 Committee, and is a Fellow of the Canadian Airmail Society.

Good illustration of "favour cancels"
I cannot see how that would have gone through the mail.
Amazing concept, all stamp collectors are kids at heart.
