and yes the stamps are changelings from red to green. there is no discoloration on the back.



On a second look I could be wrong about the color changing, maybe just a discoloration from direct sunlight or a foreign substance.

Stamperdude,
Salem, IL L-1, and what you have is what as refered to as a 'double strike'
The .02 is the only one using this precancel that has been documented with
a double strike.

Nice block of double strike precancels mate but shame about the stain though if they were mine I would live with it as they still look good.

I can see the each strike position, now that you mention it. Is this double strike common?
Harry,
I will keep them. I am not good about determining the reason behind a color change. I wonder if this issue is prone to discoloration?

The double strike is known, as I mentioned, but common or not I can't be sure. The books on the subject I have, don't say. It is possible that most maybe double struck on this stamp.
On the color 'red', that color always will fade if exposed to light over time.
