With the recent increase in precancel postings I was wondering if anyone was a member of the PSS? Also, I am wishing to obtain state specific precancel lists for Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California. For those of you in the know, I do not need Kansas because there are only 3 towns along Route 66 & only 2 had precancels.

Not a member, but have thought of it a few times. Thing is, I really hate joining clubs only because I usually have to make extra time for them.

WpgLwr, I would imagine the time would be minimal for the PSS. For me it would be for the publication & access to info.

Warrehouse, I have debated whether or not to join the PSS and a few other specialty societies. That might mean dropping some as well. Interests change focus from time to time.

Probably, but there is always the remembering to send the new dues in, finding the time to read the newsletter, etc.

Funny enough, but I was once a member of a stamp society, and it seemed to me that whenever their magazine would come in, it would arrive at a time when I was busy doing something else, so it would get set aside. Next thing I know, a year's gone by, it's dues time, and I still had a year's worth of magazines to read! Maybe *I'm* just too busy to make it worthwhile enough for me.

Plus it always seems like dues are due at an inopportune time or all at once.

I'm currently in the APS and the Local Post Collectors Society and have been a member of PSS. There are benefits including discounts which can negate the membership fee, and access to their libraries for research if that is part of your interest. Let alone the magazine updates you receive. I think it is worth it!

You do not have to be a member of PSS to purchase literature from them. However, you do get a modest discount on most literature sold directly by PSS if you are a member.

In addition, by joining PSS, you are also encouraging their activities, research, and publication, even if you don't have time to be directly involved.

khj,
That is a very good point. I was aware of the ability to purchase catalogs by nonmembers. I thought maybe I would run across someone whom already had the info I needed & I could purchase copies from them.

philb, You're Welcome!
Any questions fell free to ask.

The one thing about precancels it brings back the excitement to collecting
US stamps and still be affordable.
