Marty I sell my duplicates at 30 percent and have no problem paying the same amount..to me its a form of trading...i have to stop and think that when I started collecting unlike Sonalee there was no internet to ask questions..as a kid you are afraid to ask too many questions to an adult..so its taken me 60 years the hard way to learn the little bit I do know...and I study and read on stamps every day !!

Sell

Oooh no, I did it again! I've got to learn to read posts more carefully.

I don't SELL at 10%-25%, I BUY at 10%-25%

I sell at 110% Odd, but I haven't sold much lately.

Seriously, Phil and others, I don't sell much and when I do I don't want to take a chance at gouging someone, so for the most part, I do sell for way below catalog and the price depends on the rarity or desirability of the stamp.

sonalee, I think some people don't want to hear from a fellow collector "You paid what for that stamp, are you crazy, you can get for half that at...." or from a friend or relative "you've sunk $$$$$$$ into a bunch of little pieces of paper, that only other collectors of those little pieces of paper could appreciate or would be willing pay money for, etc". So I don't talk about value to anyone. For me it is not about the monetary value because other than for insurance purposes I don't care. I doubt that I will ever have a collection worth a lot monetarily. There is nothing like thumbing through you collection(s) and just appreciating the beauty on each page or of looking at a series that may have elluded you for years, but now you have the complete set. Boy, that is hard to beat. Okay, everybody you can wake up now....I'm finished....

bobgggg, I like your math Now I just need to find a money changer who will give me the same rate for my dollars.

When I started collecting stamps, I was not concerned with how much they were worth. A few years later I was concerned and met with a lot of disappointment. Now I'm back to where I started and I'm much happier Sure, I'm pleased when I come across a valuable stamp but that does not drive me.

abutt1... you are correct, however, there are plenty of fine, and interesting topics within the threads of this site..

Every now and then you will find a topic where one can vent out, have a little fun, and tease his fellow collectors.

Guys, don't you think telling what your collection is worth on line is like advertising for a burglary? like saying "hay crooks I have the crown jewels in the back closet, and I don't live in the vault at Fort Knox" One must use some discretion about what they post on line. However, I would trade my collection for that former mystic z-grill,..if they throw in that block of inverted Jenny's. Laughing out loud, (since I cant abbreviate!)
