I would love to see some covers from a town I recently visited.

While on my recent vacation we made a side trip to historic St. Augustine Florida. It is known as the oldest continously occupied settlement in the US, founded in 1565. That is just a few years before Jamestown. I was pleasantly surprised by the quaint ocean side town. There is the wonderful St Augustine lighthouse which you can go to the top, Bridge of Lions which is being renovated, the old city gates, Spanish Fort Mantanzes, the original Ripley's Believe It Or Not Musuem, and the landing site of Ponce De Leon with the Fountain of Youth, plus a lot of historical hotels, buildings, and musuems. Before I knew it the day was over and I hadn't made it to the postoffice to mail a postcard back home. Also, it is located along Florida's scenic byway known as the A1A Ocean Highway. It was a pleasant drive, even though it was a bit cloudy & rainy.

St Augustine has the oldest church in the US, but Pensacola has been settled since 1559.

A very haunted Lighthouse at that & so are the Forts. A wonderful city. Ripley's Junk!

Ratio 411, Pensacola was founded in 1559 by Spanish from Vera Cruz, Mexico, and lasted for 2 weeks when hurricane struck destroying Pensacola, settlers killed many scattered throughout the Gulf & Caribbean. Of the 1400 that came to settle in Pensacola was down to 50 when the Spanish authorities proclaimed the area too dangerous in 1561 ending the effort to settle there the remaining 50 returned to Vera Cruz.
It would not be until 1696 when the Spanish returned and reestablished Pensacola permanently.
