I just bought a Scott 579. It is the 2 cent perf 11x10 rotary press coil waste stamp. I have a question concerning the selvage on it. It is perf 11 across the top (and of course perf 10 on the vertical sides). The bottom has about half an inch of selvage and is not perforated.

Is this normal? Why weren't the perforations applied along the bottom horizontal edge? By the way, the vertical perforations do not continue across the selvage to the edge.

[EDIT: I misread your original post. I just woke up . Disregard my original post. Here is the correction...]

Your stamp is from the edge of the pane. That is why there is no perfs along the bottom. Given the size of the selvage and the fact that the vertical perfs do not extend all the way to the edge, the stamp is from the very bottom row of the rotary press sheet.

Thanks khj. I thought I would go for numbers 578 and 579, since with the possible exception of 595, the other oddballs are waaaaay too expensive.

I want some of the oddball Washington/Franklins, but can't even consider them without certificates. I crave 519 above all, followed by 459 and 461. While not an oddity, 500 is also on my list.(it is just type Ia)
