Hi All,

Found a couple of these stamps with unusual die cuts so thought I'd share pics.

First is one with what I believe is called a "cobra" die cut at the top. This one seems to have an extreme "cobra cut"

This next pic shows one I have with a miscut die cut. Would this be called a "Misperf" since it is not perfed? Or would it be called a miscut?

So there you have it. Any thought on these? Has anyone else seen one like this miscut? Oh, these do soak off in just warm water.

Kind Regards,

Dave N.

oldtriguy1960,
Those 'perfs' look like the ski-slopes and ski-bumps on the Canada flower definitives of 2004 - 2010.

Here is a link to a site by the editor of the Unitrade Canada catalogue and to his link to his article in pdf format (Adobe Acrobat) about the serpentine die-cutting 'plates' or 'mats' of these stamps (which are printed by the company Lowe Martin.).

http://www.adminware.ca/LoweMartin/index.htm

Do the USA stamps have a constant perf on every stamp or are they different? If they are different then the cobras or slopes in the cutting would be similar to how the Canada stamps are printed and cut and so the stamps would be able to be plated and those special slopes in the perfs that you have would be able to be determined to be from a certain position on the 'plate' or 'mat'(100 x 100 stamps or whatever they are).

However, if they are a constant thing occurring on every stamp in the coil or plate or whatever they have then it would be no good to plate them.

Link to topic about a perf gauge for recent serpentine perfs that cannot be measured by standard perf gauges that measure 10-18):

Misperf or not misperf:
Since these stamps (if they are similar to the Canada ones mentioned above) are die-cut self-adhesive stamps it is not strictly a misperf in that if this abnormality occurs every plate or large pane of stamps then it is just the normal perf or serpentine die cut for that stamp in that position on it's pane.

It is a rare variety possibly. If naming or labeling it I think I would call it by it's commonly known name of cnbra die cut as you have done. (haven't heard that because perfs on the stamps in Canada are horizontal, thus the ski jump term).

To advertise it and sell it however, since this plating or all different perfs on a plate is not widely known then misperf would be the term used in the common vernacular I suppose.

In Canada I think some folks were hoarding these ski-jump stamps a s they thought that all the stamps were the same except for that rare jump perf. But now (after years) it is known that one in one hundred stamps have the ski-jump (if it is present on that plate to start with) but each other stamp is uniquely perfed also. Not as dramatically but all the same, differently, top and bottom, or possibly for your US stamps, side to side..

However, all my pondering above becomes moot if every stamp is die cut exactly the same except for those you have. Or similar. I think it is doubtful that this is so.

But it can be pointed out and shown to the normal eyeball to be somewhat abnormally perfed, so it does merit a mention at least.
