I have not heard it being discussed here, but I am sure somewhere within the higher reaches of the Postal Service, there is a Stamp Dilemma....or there was.

While many countries throughout the world deliver Self-Adhesive stamps to their customers, Israel appears to be at pains to do so.
Only the odd booklet and a few Definitive values so far. And even those items can be found with regular gum, probably to appease the purists.
This is all to do with the Tabs of course. Issuing Self-Adhesives will mean that the Tabs will have to go !! And I can say that will probably never happen.
So what is the answer ??
I recently saw an article in a British Stamp Magazine about the first Self-Adhesive stamps with regular perfs issued by Liechtenstein. Has anyone seen this issue or has a copy of the stamps??
Or has anyone seen any information about this issue ?
I will be interested to see how the Self-Adhesive develops in Israel, if indeed it does.

Just as an aside, those S/A stamps issued here thus far are easy to soak off paper using the regular tepid water method.

Londonbus1....Views or thoughts anyone?

I saw an article about those, too. I seem to recall that they were done in cooperation with Avery? I could be completely misremembering that part. An interesting mix of new and traditional. Based on how Liechtenstein's stamps appear to work, it does seem that Israel could keep up the tabs.

I don't pay a lot of attention to newer issues, but it seems like a better direction than we've been heading, to me.

As long as they're soakable...

C.

I hope they keep issuing lickers with tabs. I can see why they would be reluctant to stop. I can also see how issuing both types will complicate things for collectors as well - more varieties to deal with.

Perhaps Israel is issuing the stamps similar to Canada's with a layer of water activated something in between the adhesive layer and the paper stamp?? So you can soak them off the envelope paper?

If I understand the Liechtenstein new self-adhesive idea from reading here it is so you can keep the tabs connected to the stamps? I remembered that Canada had in 2005 issued a set of bridges (I didn't get them) and a stamp for the province of Alberta.

These had a layer of paper with printing , then a layer of adhesive, then the stamp, and the whole thing was perforated. The backs had pictures on them. Like having a booklet of self-adhesives perforated through the cardboard back. More expensive maybe? I wish Canada made tabs.

Not nearly as nice as the tabs on Israeli stamps but still along the same lines???
