Same story. I found this stamp ( the blue is replaced with brown) in the same mail room on a returned electric bill in the company I worked for.

I have added a lager picture of stamp.

I feel like I fell into the middle of this discussion?

Welcome King Conn (great handle, but the way).

Does the brown stamp have a Scott number. I don't find it under 1622 in my 2007 Catalog.

Kirk,
This an error of colour, not listed in Scotts.

Or maybe not an error at all

There are many around and not expensive...so maybe a clue there somewhere.

Hi folks......

My guess is that it's not an error.......but it is a interesting freak.

This FO Capital is prone to having a lot of different color freaks.

........not Capital......it's Independence Hall.

Error or freak, it's a great find. I'm guessing the electric company is a great place to see thousands of boring definitives with that occasional 'find' to keep the interest level up.

King Conn!

I wish the image here was larger, but the color looks to me to be more of a purple than a brown, which is what would happen if the red plate overprinted the blue. Still an error, but not so bad as someone spilling brown ink in the pot!

The star square and the United States 13c look the same color as the stripe running across the top of Independence Hall

I still feel that it's a combination of the red and blue plates that's causing the color change.

You have an inking freak, not a printing error of color. This type of inking freak is common for this issue, but it is more pronounced on your stamp.

This stamp was actually printed in 3 colors: dark blue, red, and red brown. Normally, the red brown only appears as a dark horizontal stripe as the roof of Independence Hall, and also the ground.

Red will often bleed into the building and also the "blue" field of the flag.

In your case, the red brown has bled into the lettering "United States 13c" and the blue field of the flag, making them appear brown. It's actually red brown mixed with blue.
