My name is Ken and I have been collecting US stamps for the past 30+ years. I had been shopping at a local stamp dealer store for those entire 30+ years until they retired not long ago. What a disappointment! Good for them, but not so much for me.
I began shopping around the 'Net looking for forums and a new place to buy stamps...so here I am.
I got started collecting when I was about 8 or 9. My mom and grandmother would go through old Christmas cards and I always noticed the Christmas stamps. Finally one day my grandmother tore off the stamps and gave them to me. That's how I got my start.
In junior high, I was trading comics, baseball cards, and stamps with other kids. I bought my first stamp album at the school library (Weekly Reader) and soon found out that I could buy albums at the post office.
I eventually combined all my stamps into a couple of Scott Minuteman albums, but now I'm ready to "upgrade" my albums. I'm also ready to expand my collection to other countries, especially UK and USSR. I'm looking forward to learning from all you guys.

Welcome aboard!
I hope you enjoy it here. I know I have. My Mom lived in Van Cleeve KY for about 8 years. Don't know if that is in your neck of the woods or not.

Hi Ken:
Welcome aboard. I've been here just under a year and I love this place and the people here.
I've learned so much from reading. I generally read every post - the majority of which don't apply to my own collecting. And when I have a question, I always receive friendly and knowledgeable advice.

Ken : welcome aboard. I'm a newbie myself. Best of luck collecting USSR which will take you forever and a day. It is interesting to speculate as to how many of Russia's population have ever seen 99.999999999999999999999999% of the roughly 10,000 issues that have been produced by that country. They are beautiful however, but vast majority CTO |

Welcome, Ken!
USSR is hot! Check Mystic Stamps of Camden, NY... they used to have a good deal on a USSR album.

Welcome ken! It sounds like you had a great time going to that old stamp store. I remember one downtown here that is gone now. But after years another has opened up but has a different atmosphere. |

Welcome! I only collect pre-USSR Russia and states within my worldwide collection so when I hit 50 posts I might have some USSR to trade. I printed a USSR Steiner pages binder once but I got tired of it because there were just too many stamps to ID and pages of catalog entries. Plus, they were mostly CTO. It should keep you busy. Enjoy and welcome. |
