That's six-sided stamps for those of us not mathematically inclined at this time. I noticed this shape while looking through an old catalog and found this pic on DelCampe. Are there any other hexagonal shaped stamps around? I haven't been bitten by the odd-shaped bug since now. I like the Japan and France odd shapes but didn't feel the need to collect them like I do with this shape. Netherlands Telegraph stamp 1877-1903

Yes, there are a number of hexagonal shaped postage stamps, from very early (1847 Great Britain) to very recent. Let me see if I can pilfer a few pics for you. One recent one is the Hong Kong Civic Education issue of 2007. I think Mac collects irregular shaped stamps, so he should have a few hexagonal shaped stamps to show. |

I think there is a slight difference between a stamp perforated in a hexagonal shape and printed (in the case of the Great Britain, embossed) in the shape. There is a huge difference in the value of the British stamps cut square and cut to shape. |

Thanks khj, those are some nice stamps, whether they are octagonal or hexagonal. I get lost in the detail when I see embossed cut square stamps(?) and envelopes and didn't even notice that you had snuck in a couple extra sides on me there.
That Hong Kong issue grabs the eye. Must be hard to separate the stamps when you wanted to mail something!
It is neat (and I learned something) that the Monaco stamp tries to follow the shape of the country's borders. Monaco is a hex in a strategy board game (that produces nice stamps though). I played a lot of strategy games years ago.
I was just looking at the designs of some of the older Australia states stamps. Fascinating.
Thanks Londonbus! Those Namibia stamps are wonderful. Is Namibia in Africa? There are eagles there? |

The Great Britain pyrple 6d does say Six at the top and the cancel does say 63 if you read it upside down in a hurry. Almost a six! Nice colour and design anyway. |
