It's interesting to me that SCF has so many members who don't post. Now I realize that some people just like to "lurk" and read -- that's fine with me. I'm not being critical of that.

But I do find it curious that so many who take the next step of joining SCF never make their first post. As a matter of fact, if you peruse the Membership List, you'll see that about 375 of our 813 members have never made a single post.

I can't believe that nearly half of us don't have something to contribute. What can the loquacious half do to get the quiet types to interact?

I don't know why they don't post anything...but maybe alot of them just like to read all the input. I have looked at alot of older post and answered many of my own questions. I am in a gun forum. rarely ever do I make a post in the gun forum. no questions I guess, and no answers...lol

have a good day

I say we roll out the welcome mat to all our lurkers to join in and all our nonposting members to speak up. Some people need an engraved invitiation. Then again us stamp collectors generally liked engraved paper. Ha!

If you've spent any time at all lurking here, you will already know that this is one forum where you are unlikely to catch any flak at all for posting a question or comment. Its painless and pretty much risk free.

I was one of those who lurked a long time. Now I have to resist the temptation to post too much. I figure that if you can put up a scan of a stamp that is somewhat related to the discussion at hand, go for it; someone may not have seen that stamp before, and they might be off to the races on a new interest.

Try it...you'll like it.

I can understand most lurking tactics. Shoot I myself was guilty of lurking for almost 6 months before actually joining. I do hope others get to post or ask a question and join in the fun. I still sometimes am guilty of surfing by with no post to catch up on reading.

Just to restate, I'm OK with lurkers and I'm not trying to browbeat anyone into posting.

But remember, guests have access to everything here -- there are no hidden forums or member-only areas. So we're left with 375 people who took the time to join, but never made their first post.

A good to those who are reading this.

Please feel free to contribute. Do not feel you need to have a scanner or camera to post nice pics, although I think we all enjoy a nice pic at times.

Sometimes it is the one's who think and watch that have a perspective on things that the ones talking and posting don't have. You see the forest instead of the trees. That is also good.

"Why not make that first post"?

Indeed. Why not and then why not make many more.
So here is the incentive to all lurkers:

The first 'Lurker' to post here in this thread and introduce himself [first post here] can choose any one of the Unsold GB lots here...

https://goscf.com/t/6852&whichpage=1

.....and receive his/her prize upon passing 50 posts !! Now there's an incentive to 'unlurk' and get posting.

Hurry....they might sell before you post !

Londonbus1.....Gives away and advertises at the same time !

Good Idea Londonbus.

Thanks to everyone for supporting my original post. Have you noticed that in the past week or two, we've had some new members making great posts. I bet there are others.

Come on now.
The offer is still on to a lurker with no posts.

A chance to grab a very nice item from Great Britain. Just come and 'unlurk' on this thread.

See my previous post for the link to the items.

Londonbus1....why, there's even a missing 'p' !!

No first post 'lurkers' have claimed this lovely and valuable giveaway, so I have now closed the Sales and this offer with it. The items in question will be sold seperately another time.

I hope in the future, a 'lurker' will read this post. If he does, make a post here and then contact me via the group. You may get a nice surprise !

Londonbus1...I am trying to be kind.

Greetings All

I have been reading the various posts in here on this topic and I can well understand why some members are perplexed because of the number of lurkers.

I am a moderator in one of the philatelic online chats and we do not tolerate lurkers. There are some room I have been in and have seen people entering into the chat and not say a word! This, to me anyway, is carzy. Why go in to a chat room and not say anything??

I have to admit, that there will be times when I will not be responding to a lot of the messages in here and that is simply because I may not be up on the topic per se. However, having stated that, I will'try' to answer any post I feel I can contribute to.
