Hello I've been using the 2008 scotts catalog and kjh has looked a few China stamps up for me and the values are quite a bit different so in the process of learning ebay to sell some of my stamps im confused on what to start my bids out at I have listed 1 so far I started it out at $50.00 2 bids so far up to $52.00 6days left but im not sure if im asking right price to start out so is there a current site I can find the right values up to date without having to buy a set of scotts?

Tina...Found a site that might help.
values.hobbizine.com/chinastamps.

I think you can put in what country after the slash.

Also as a guide; I pay from 10 to 20% of cataloge value for stamps on line (or ebay). I don't think you can ask much more than that.

Tina, if your getting bids already with 6 days left you should do well. One of those bidders maybe using smart bid. Plus if there is interest like there seems to be there will be a flurry of bidding at the end.

For mint PRC, you probably should start off a little higher than for other stamps -- say 25%-33% of catalog. I would expect them to sell for at least 33% of catalog, and you should be getting close to 50% of catalog at the close. If you are not getting the 50% mark, I would put things up slowly until you start attracting a bigger bidding audience. You'll know on the last day, as that's when the flurry of bids usually comes in.

Good luck!

The problem with PRC is that there tends to be a lot speculative activity. So some issues may not change in value or change less than 10%. But some issues may jump 10-50%.

A couple of the items you showed me have some speculative activity, that's why there were some noticeable differences in the catalog prices.

Just for everyone's info, most of the stamps for a given set were issued in the same quantity. When you see 1-2 stamps (and not the high value) listed with an unusually high value compared to the other stamps in the set -- that's a pretty good sign of speculative activity.

That's why I keep mentioning that you will get a lot better price if you have the complete set.
