There have been some references about collecting pre-1940 or 1950 or some other era. Do you collect World Wide, U.S., Other countries, and do you collect everything up to the present or stop at some decade ? And if so why?

I have no preference, I collect any stamp from any time and any place.
Why? Just because they are there.

I collect WW. I put time boundries on my collection to limit the volumes of pages and empty empty spots. By stopping at 1970 I feel I have a collection for most countries from the beginning to modern times and yet a manable amount of pages.

I have found I like to bound each country at different dates:

Easter Europe to WW II occupation (Germany occupation stamps are in my German collection)
Russia to 1917 (USSR it too prolific for my tastes)
Islands and Africa to Independence and I keep them associated with Great Britain, France, etc. as appropriate
Liberia to 1940
For US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, and Japan I collect all years....my kiloware fun.
Most of the rest I stop at 1970

I have been tempted to sell off everything and just focus on a set of Big Brown reproduction pages to 1940 but that passes.

With my U.S., I started losing interest in all the new issues about 2000; and coincidentally, that's where my album pages ended. So it was easy for me to decide not to buy any additional supplements.

With my Canada collection, my albums include pages through 2008. I haven't yet decided if I will stop at 2000, 2008, or buy supplements each year.

With my U.N., I've committed to staying current.

As my main collection is British Empire King George V, I span three decades from 1910-1936. Has there been a decent stamp issued since?!?!?!?

My favourite decade is 2020-2030.

I will be working less and have more time for stamps.
The postal services of this world will understand by then, that they are issuing too many stamps as collectors fall by the wayside and stockpiles of stamps go unsold the world over. The Postal bosses have to take massive pay cuts because of it !

So Great Britain, for example, revert to issuing 6 sets a year as they did 60 years previously, with no more Miniature sheets, Smilers sheets, Commemorative sheets or bed sheets ! They will even issue a new definitive series for King William, based on the designs submitted for KEVIII which were never used. Sublime !

Self-Adhesives the world over would have long gone after the widespread condemnation and the worldwide riots around Post Offices and Postal service buildings. Put those scissors away guys, you 'aint gonna need 'em any more !

The USA will be issuing mostly Flag definitives by this time, mainly because every Commemortaive subject would have been covered by then, which is good for me as I envisage still collecting the 4 million Flag stamps that were issued in the 'golden' years.

Finally, SCF will still be going strong so I can still post the odd drivvle with the help of my new Stanley Scott Gibbons super strong computer magnifying glass that changes direction to the tone of your voice ! Ah...bliss !

Yes, for sure 2020-2030 is my very favourite decade.........

Londonbus1.......What time is it ? Is it morning ! Oh no!

As a general rule, I prefer the engraved issues from he 20's through 40's, but there are thousands of exceptions.

My India collection is poor. Of course, I have the Delhi and Jubilee sets mint, and many on cover, but the basic definitives are lacking in quality.

Very nice I have a few on cover as well. Unfortunately, Indian postmarks of the era were more of the obliterator type, so FU are also hard to find.

I only collect U.S. pre 1940 and my other collection is Victoria, which is pre 1913.

Just a matter of preference I guess. I love the old engraved stamps, and the history that goes along with them. The printing techniques, the variations, the style etc. I have no interest in modern stamps. They just don't have any appeal to me.
