Old Album

I just picked up a Scott album from 1930. I think the stamps need to be removed from the book in order to be protected. What do you all think? I sure hate to take apart someones work, but I would also hate to see the stamps degrade.

I'm no expert but if the album is in decent shape and the stamps seem like they were hinged properly I'd probably leave it alone. If there were mold or anything of the sort it will be a different story.

I'm certain some of the more experienced collectors will advice you this is simply what I would to.

This is one of those questions to which there is no single answer. IMHO there is nothing wrong with removing the stamps and incorporting them into another collection. It's done all the time. On the other hand, if you like the collection as it exists, there is nothing wrong with keeping it as is.

Like most things involving collecting, it's really up to the individual since there are no real rules!

I thought I read somewhere that the paper in the older albums was not really safe (acid free) and would eventually cause some damage to the stamps. I do like the book as much as the stamps, although the binding is giving it up.

Well the stamps have been in there for about 70 years already. If they are not expensive stamps, and there is no apparent damage to the stamps, I would tend to keep them in the album.
