HI From The Bayou State(And Saints!!)

I'm gonna lay it out like this. I have NO CLUE about stamps and the collecting of stamps. My grandma works at the Salvation Army and came across a bucket of stamps. I am a coin collector so I know its the little things that make the difference from lil to lot. I kinda panned through and 98% are cut-outs off envelopes. Most are from the 60's and 70's.
So how do I go about this? Where do I start? Help me!

1st stop local library. Scott's postage stamp catalog. Most libraries have them or can inter library loan them. Since you collect coins I assume you would know what to do from there. If you have any more precise questions please ask.

You didn't say whether your stamps were all U.S. or worldwide. In either case you need to start by sorting them, either by country or by stamp. To be able to identify your stamps you'll need to take a trip to your local Library. Library's often carry the Scott Stamp Catalogs. You can check them out and take them home to start identifying your stamps.

If you are serious about collecting stamps you'll need to pick up a pair of stamp tongs and a magnifying glass. The tongs look like flat tipped tweezers and are what you will use to handle your stamps. No matter how hard you wash your hands there is still oil on your fingers that can be carelessly transferred to stamps.

While you are at it. Post some pictures of your stamps.
