Hi Everyone. Check out this freaky looking postmark.
Here's a scan of the cover

and here's a close-up

Whoever did this had enough ink on Their thumb to leave a pretty dark & heavy thumb print dead center of the postmark, and yet there is no evidence of ink marked or smeared anywhere else. To me it looks intentional in a Homeland Security sort of way. Has anyone ever seen a postmark with thumbprint? I don't quite know what to make of it. Hmmm...

Lucky

Hi Kathy.....

It's not an uncommon occurrence on mail from before modern automated equipment.

That is the most amazing postmarks I have ever seen. Rod maybe you could hand your one to the FBI or NCIS for identification. Who needs DNA! Yes I would very much like collect items such as these! Great posts!

Wowweeee Rod, those are flippin great!! I really like the way that stamp looks. Do you have any more fingerprint items in your collection that you could post some more scans of? I would love to see them if you do.

Kathy

On the Cuba, that surely can't be a postmark. Isn't it printed on the stamp?

On the Croatia, are those really postmarks?! Weird.

Guys and Gals,
yes, they are both printed fingerprints on the stamps.
but alas, they are the only two in my collection.

(Similar to "thimbles" on stamps... there arn't any )

These topicals are easy to complete.
I think Lucky's fingerprint was intentional.

The Croatian is Ivan Vucetica, inventor of fingerprint ID.
Stamps teach us anything, what? :)

The Cuban is Juan F Steegers, pioneer of the introduction of finger print science in Cuba.
