How did this stamp end up with 3 pieces of selvage???

Normally, the top right position in each of the four panes will have 3 pieces of attached selvage. On this issue, the plate # and other inscriptions were along the side (right, left, or bottom), displaced from the corner positions. There were no plate numbers along the top; instead, you have an extra wide top selvage. The notch indicates that the stamp came from the upper right pane, and useful for demonstrating that nobody "trimmed" the selvage to remove the crease and ding.
