This looks to be a silent precancel. I'd like to know if it is or not. any help would be appreciated.

Bottom bar is about 1.5mm thick; 2nd bar up is 1mm although it is a little thicker on the right side of the stamp; 3rd bar up is 1mm. A portion of another bar is barely visible on the top perforations.

Distance between bars from bottom to top are 7-7.5mm; 8mm; and 7.5-8mm

Sorry to ruin your day... it's a well placed parcel cancel.

Oh rats! I was afraid someone might say it's not a silent precancel.

Thanks David, it's better to fall off a ladder while still on the bottom rung ... it doesn't hurt as much when one hits the ground.

What is a silent pricancel? Aren't all precancels silent? I mean I never heard any make any sound of any kind.

The term "Silent Precancel" comes from the early days of precancel use. Precancels were originally local in nature and were authorized by the local PM. They were various ways the stamps were marked, but unlike a regular cancels there was no indication of the city/post office of origin, thus silent.
"No indication of the origin of the precancel on the postage stamp, it is silent".

This was reinforced when the Many National postal systems wished to gain greater control over the precanceling process. The USA, Canada & Belgium would overprint or authorized the overprint for a city/post office for use from there. So this resulted in most precancels stating the source location of the issue, not silent.

Most precancels currently silent, but are controlled by the national postal systems and are available throughout the country, only a few are really local in nature.

Lizards don't have eardrums.

One of these days precancels are going to start speaking up and demanding equal rights.

Gee BeeSee you are the first person in the world
to laugh at one of my jokes. I don't know how to respond.

Silent cancels: across the pond they are referred to
as "mute" cancels, because they "do not speak"
Google "mute cancel"
