I just received a price list from JET. They certainly make "sense" of the Machins. One thing about their list puzzles me though. They list the stamps by both Scott and SG numbers. The SG numbers of course are from the SG catalog and are, to me, unnecessarily complex with a lot of seemingly out of sequence numbering. The Scott numbers, however start at "1" and count up. Does Scott have a separate numbering sequence just for the Machin issues? Odd to lay the least.

If you want to make any sense of the Machin's as a "serious" collector, I would urge you to come to grips with the SG numbering system. It will remain the primary numbering reference for years to come. even most non-Machin collectors know what an X842 is. When in Rome and all that.

Yes, the Scott catalogue listings were organized about 10 years ago with the Machin head definitives placed in their own section at the end of the British listings, with the stamps renumbered using the prefix MH (MH1, MH2, etc.).

Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish Machin heads have their own prefixes as well, WMMH, SMH & NIMH. The four Isle of Man Machin heads are still listed with their old catalogue numbers, however.

I agree with Jubilee. The best list to follow,[ before specialization] is the concise. This is the list I follow until 2009 when I gave up due to the Security slits fiasco.

A new edition has just been let loose on the market, also in hardback for the first time. It was to be one of my purchases in London but my card packed up on me on the last day and I came back without !!

If you want a concise list, let me know and I will try to get one to you. But they can be found on the various Machin websites.

Good luck.

I see StampStudy is trying to make drool again with the 00p's !

It will be neat if StampStudy gets the Machins on the Wiki!

Thanks for the offer, Londonbus. I have just ordered a recent SG concise, and am hoping that it will suffice. The concise I was using was a 1997 edition which was of course useless for more recent issues.

Anyway, I will hope that my needs are met with the new concise, as well as the price lists of JET and Arthur Ryan.

Not trying to make you drool Londonbus :) A friend of mine is shy about 20 stamps for completing his base Machin collection according to the concise - although I am not a machin collector its impressive to look at them when there are so many.

The site mentioned earlier adminware is fantastic -- maybe I should contact him to see if his info could be uploaded to the wiki.

Goodluck with your collection rohumpy!

I am beginning to make progress on the collection. I now have about 200 different Machins. They do look nice when assembled on pages. The colors almost have a rainbow effect.

Thats great that you have made a start on the machins rohumpy ! heres one of my favourite machins.

Missing £2 - When this was realised I couldve picked them up for £40 a piece but I was a poor man at the time, this one a birthday present for a friend cost me a lot more.
