Is this really a good idea? Having naphthalene fumes surrounding stamps does not sound wise. This is a hydrocarbon and would it have an affect on inks similar to plastic softeners?

The author comes with respect, but I agree with you,
I am doubtful. Moth balls OK on the floor to kill the silverfish,
which in Australia can kill a collection in months.
But not in with the stamps. I made up a test box a few years ago
(plastic sandwich box, stamps and moth balls)
which is in the attic, where, I have no idea.
One day when it resurfaces, I'll post the results.

I just re-read this article. How old is it? Moth balls made of camphor may be worse than moth balls made of Naphthalene. One of the uses of camphor is as a plasticizer for nitrocellulose.
