I hope this is the right catagory to put this.It is a postmarked 1937 letter from the U.S.S. CALIFORNIA.There are two washington 3 cent stamps with air mail marked through them.What would this be called?Are these collectible? I also have some from same time period from the U.S.S RELIEF Ship.Thanks for any help.

Yes, they are collectible by airmail collectors, ship cover collectors, Washington stamp collectors, etc. However, I could not tell you what value your cover may have.

The specialty society for Naval Covers (i.e. envelopes/letters cancelled aboard ships) is the USCS Universal Ship Cancellation Society. Incidentally, I belong to the group. The USS California was a battleship and the Relief was a Hospital Ship. Both are very collectible and have a premium value. They both represent sub-specialties and are sought after.
