I was wondering if someone could help me with what the value of this cover would be. It's definitely seen better days but it does show a great example of the use of a postage due stamp.

I'd appreciate whatever help or input that anyone might be able to throw my way.

Lucky

Well, think this is not a rarity, so this condition will not be accepted, I am afraid - though a precancelled postage due on cover is not too common. Not more than a few cents up to 1 or two bucks.

stampvirgin, your postage due appears to be a Scott J23 of the J25 design. The J25 design includes numbers J22 through J28. As for lucky's postage due, it is definitely a J33 design and might be a J62. The J33 design includes numbers J31 through J68.

ugh.. okay.. when I said pre-cancel I meant over print.
guigngt.. how you can tell the difference is surprising from the small picture..
I will have to dig it up and check it. I do believe you though..

Actually, you are correct to call it a pre-cancel postage due even though technically it is an overprint.

The 1928 cancel date on lucky's cover is a give away for it most likely being a J62 id. However, I may have made a mistake on your postage due stamp. Since your cover is canceled 1890 it would be a J16 since the J23 was not issued until 1891. Visually, the banner design of the words "TWO CENTS" under the figure "2" is not present on yours but the cancel dates are the real reasons for my comments.

hi,
i looked at the stamp. the banner design does say two cents under the number 2.

edit:
it's not a straight line but in a semi-circle.

I was put off at first by the 'precancel' postage due stamp,
but a second look and I like that cover. The only problem I
see is the paper is turning to dust. I have some cover I really
like with the paper in that condition. :(
They fall apart if you look at them wrong.

i am attempting to rescue them.. I have separated all of them into their own pages, in a binder that has a pocket for each one.
