I wouldn't even call you late for lunch

I was hoping you would respond to the image Ron,
this is "discount mail", and I have never come across it before
in GB
any ideas of why the discount?

...some other cig cards

Groan......

Is there any mention of discount mail on the reverse of the card Rod?
We don't know of a discounted mail in that era.
When I worked for the British Post Office there were various types of
discount mail, usually with bulk mailing or local area postings but to the best of our knowledge there was nothing like that in the stage coach era.

Thought the attached might appeal to you if you have not seen it before.
Cheers
Ron

Cheers Ron, so that cig card may be just whimsey!
I'll keep that in mind for the future and ask around,
I'll see if I can find the reverse.

Thanks for the Velvet Soap, Indeed I have one of the original Postcards in my possession.

I will link that to an example of early Australian racism,
early Australian history will show "Toby Tosspot"
aka Sir Edmund Barton, (on 2 australian stamps) australia's first Prime minister, his first legislation was the "white australia policy"

The Barton government's first piece of legislation was the Immigration Restriction Act, which put the White Australia policy into law. The Labor Party's required legislation to limit immigration from Asia as part of its agreement to support the government, although in fact Barton had promised the introduction of the White Australia Policy in his election campaign. Barton stated "The doctrine of the equality of man was never intended to apply to the equality of the Englishman and the Chinaman.

Here's something for you, Rod. I was digging through a rather uninspiring batch of Irish kiloware and I noticed these cancels. In late 1976, the slogan said "Please shew district numbers in Dublin addresses". By early 1978, "shew" had been updated to "show".

How extraordinary Ryan!
well done you for recalling this thread.
Looks like is may illustrate a postal rate increase to boot.

A kiloware of Ireland? I have never seen that.
I have snarfed your image.
