This, should, I think, be gray... but certainly doesn't look it to me. Thoughts? Suggestions?

almost looks black...
they came in gray and light gray..

Scott 566 - A169 it is not a plate block as it doesn't have a PB #, so it's a block of 4. .30c each
Unless you have something no one has ever seen, I would say it is the 566,,

The ink appears the same. Maybe the paper just discolored?

Check the perfs -- it could be 696 (perf 11 x 10.5)

Barb,

I just emailed you a link that will take you to images of 566 and 696 from the National Postal Museum collection. Both stamps were printed with ink categorized as gray; the 566 is perf 11 and 696 is perf 11 x 10.5.
