Thanks, Steve! I'll not be able to sleep for weeks! Hey, I saw what a great job Australia did with the earth friendly "Lights out". What a picture that must have been from space!! My hats off to everyone who takes a step to become earth friendly! Gussyboy1 |

I'm a fan of the Blue Ringed Octopus myself. I think you're missing the sting ray in the group now. I still can't believe old Steve went out that way. I always thought one of the "cranky" snakes would get him. |

Greg, I don't know of anyone who doesn't miss old Steve and his "Blimie!" (not sure I spelled that right?). I recently saw manta rays in Las Vegas at the Silverton in their 128,000 gallon aquarium along with 200 other fish and a few small sharks! The mantas looked like their barbs were gone--do they do that--clip their barbs off?? Gussyboy1 |

I don't know if all rays have barbs or not. I do know that most are harmless.
From what I've seen on Discovery Channel and elsewhere the "redback" is a close cousin to our Black Widow here in the states.
Jason, I can't remember the name of the tarantula looking spider that is so dangerous - the funnel web spider maybe? I think it's even deadlier than the redback. |

What a coincidence - National Geographic is doing a piece on Australian Sting Rays right now. It's showing pictures of puncture wounds and describing how the poison works. Ouch! |

yes laswabbie it's the funnel web spider it is very deadly maby more then the red back because every one look's out for red backs and the funnel webs hides in the ground so you can't see it.
