Loving my new avatar! Bow bow baaaaaaaaaooooooooooooooo! Nearly missed my trail though...believe it or not my first 'sale' on delcampe was sent off last week. I sent the order in an envelope upon which I decided to splurge on postage and affixed a one dollar stamp instead of the required sixty seven cents! In fact, an #1181 Runnymede Library which seems awfully close to an #1181a to a rookie like me who just today using StampManage found out about a catalogued $9,700 misprinted Runnymede!

I will admit that laser eye surgery would do me a world of good, but I am afraid of side effects.

Nice avatar!

Good story! Did your heart beat faster too?

I did something similar once in identifying a stamp late at night. The catalogue said it was worth 30 and I thought oh wow dollars but but was cents. I was so excited for a little while there.

If you are diabetic and have an attack while they are doing laser your eyes jump all over the place. They stop real quick and pull you back so no harm done though. I did that once as I needed lots of laser shots because of my diabetes for years.

The hard part is your eye lid wants to close because of the bright light so you get a headache after.

Speaking of magnifiers, I bought a little plastic 8x loupe from Black's photography for around $10 Canadian. It works great for detailed inspections.

Or just scan the stamp at a higher resolution than you usually do and look at all the details that way. Computers are great that way.

Puzzler, you're right about the re-scan...I should have done that--actually, that block of stamps was the only one I din't scan because I intended to use it for postage. The StampManage sample jpg just wouldn't render the engravings above the doorway on the stamp. BUt what are the odds that was one of the most valuable modern Canadian stamps (almost...by a country mile!)
