As some of you know I'm fairly new and still putting together bookmarks and references for stamp info.
I recently got Scott's international Volumes I-IV However I'm concerned that Volume IV is incomplete but have nothing to compare it to. for starters it seems to be missing South Africa who knows what else.
Has anyone listed or found listings of the countries and # of pages for the Scott International albums? I could better determine how complete my volumes are and what is missing.
Thanks,
Ed

Look near the back in the "U" section for Union of South Africa. This applies to the early SI volumes. |

Edwin, it's actually a very very good question. Even many advanced collectors would have looked in the "S" section. In the earlier SI volumes, Scott follows their traditional classic names. For example, you will find Ethiopia under Abyssinia. Also, note that the countries are NOT in exact alphabetical order. So be prepared to flip a few dozen pages forward/back for some of the countries. Enjoy your SI volumes! k |

Yes I've been noticing some of this, didn't know the Abyssinia was Ethiopia.. there is some history lessons tucked away in each stamp as well as the Volumes.
so what exactly is a SI volume? does that stand for Scott International?

HA, I was wondering why I didn't have the swimsuit edition in one of my albums!
Turns out parts I-IV pages are complete! so I can start trying to find some blank album 5-7 I'd like to eventually get those so I continue my collection up to early 70's thats the goal anyway.

Sounds exciting! I stopped at Part III; enough empty spots in those to keep me busy for a long long time. Be forewarned, although the countries are present, Scott is missing some pretty huge chunks of some of the Latin/South American countries in the International series. Be prepared to mount stamps "on the side" or adding a lot of additional pages. |

ya, KHJ... I was afraid of that however I don't know of any golden bullet for the Latin/south America issues. for now, my albums are pretty much blank so anything I look up fits right into the book so my time is very productive. as far as the Scotts Albums maybe I'll get lucky and someone on here will have mint blank Scott VOL 5-9 and I won't have to pay crazy ebay prices. when I hit my 50 posts maybe I'll ask that on the selling portion of this site. I'm already drooling over the stamp packets being offered there. |

Have you checked out Steiner pages as an alternative, or fill-in for what's missing in Scott? I know a number of collectors, including here on SCF, that have happily used Steiner's pages. http://www.stampalbums.com/ |

I saw that site during my first few weeks of research. I was unsure the quality of the pages, since I'm new I was sticking to what I'm currently familiar with (Scotts), as this hobby can get expensive quickly and mistakes can be costly. |

With Steiner pages, you print on your own paper. Print what you need, when you need it. |

OK, one more question then where do you suggest buying Acid free paper, another item I've never looked for and what (lbs/weight) paper is normally used so the pages look, lay and feel right as well as don't curl and hold hinges.
and do you ever sleep? :) |

Quote: and do you ever sleep? :) I have to stay awake and keep my stamps company. They get bored easily. Regarding the paper type/weight, I will leave that for the others to input, as I know there are several here on SCF that use Steiner pages. I buy my acid free paper at the chain office supply stores. |

I use and have been quite happy with 32# acid free paper from Staples. But, I believe that would be the absolute lowest weight I could recommend. Most people I know are using 64# plus when making there own pages. I maintain, that like many other things in this pursuit, what counts is what you feel comfortable with and fits in your budget. |
