Hi gussyboy1,
Here's the American flag. And here is a stamp which I can't find listed in Scott. I believe it is a war stamp or some kind issued during the WWII. Maybe Philb can identify this stamp.

How about this one from 1995 -- Scott 2981a, from the WWII series.

The aforementioned stamp showing the "Marines" raising the flag on Iwo Jima is titled wrongly. They are not all Marines. One man was a U.S. Navy Corpsmen. I'm sure that sailor would hate like hell to be called a Marine.

David,

When I served in the Marine Corps we had a Navy Corpsman assigned to our squad. he trained with us, ate with us, slept with us, we always considered him one of the squad and for obvious reasons a very important member. We never thought that he was not a "Marine". I agree the Navy Corpsman should get his recognition, but he was a tough as any marine there. He may in fact been offend if you called him a "sailor" Either way you look at it we were and are all brothers in arms

The Marines are part of the Navy. They might not like it, but I guess you can call them the Navy's "soldiers." Unlike the the Army, the Marines don't have their own medics but are assigned Navy Corpsmen in combat. It may be tangled and technical, but I don't see anyone in that famous photo, from which all the statues and stamps have been derived, wearing a sailor suit! And I'm not sure he would be as offended being called a Marine while assigned to a Marine unit as a Marine would be if you called one a sailor, even though they come under the Department Of The Navy and use sailor's terms such as deck, head, and brig rather then floor, latrine, and stockade.

Modern

You right! As a Marine we always had a corpsman assigned to our squad. He trained with us ate with us, etc, basically he became a Marine while assigned to us. The corpsman even wore our same combat uniform except for the insignia. He was never referred to as medic but as "Doc"
